Serenades by Beethoven/Matiegka-Anton Diabelli
New CD from A Corda
Birgitte Staernes, violin
Martin Haug, guitar
guest:Per K. Skalstad, viola.
“Con Amore” is the second CD released by the Norwegian duo A Corda. While the first release,“Fuego” , contained Spanish and Latin-american pieces, “Con Amore” represents another part of the unique repertoire for this duo. The serenades written by Beethoven/Matiegka and Anton Diabelli, were among the most popular pieces of their time, yet music suited for the concert halls. The guitarist and composer W. Matiegka arranged Beethoven`s Serenade op. 8, originally for string trio, for violin, viola and guitar., while Serenata Concertata op. 105, by Diabelli, originally was written for the flute as the lead instrument. Justified by the practise of the time, we changed the flute for the violin.
The repertoire is rarely recorded, and we hope to create some interest for the music.
A Corda is one of the unique projects run by the Norwegian violinist Birgitte Staernes, who made an exceptional debut in Wigmore Hall, May 2003. Musical Opinion wrote a stunning review, and concluded with “superb perfomances”.
CV’s for A Corda are included.
